San Francisco Overview

The iconic Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco may be one of the most beautiful cities I have ever had the pleasure of spending time in. Pastel Victorian houses, windswept views and picture perfect weather abound. I was struck by how much more beautiful, and compact, SF is in comparison to NYC. The weather was a refreshing change from the constant 90F+ temperatures and high humidity NYC has been experiencing lately.

The natural beauty of SF is incredible

SF is very small (about 7 miles by 7 miles) and almost all our travel around the city was done by Uber and Lyft, which were surprisingly cheap. We rarely had a ride that cost more than $7. We also bought MUNI cards but rarely used them. The buses are much slower than ride share options.

The city is great for walking, on par with New York it seemed. I heard a lot about the sizeable homeless population before visiting, but it didn't seem any more prominent than in New York. It was surprisingly cold at night (one night I was shivering in a fleece) but beautiful during the day. What everyone says about dressing in layers is true -- I wore a cardigan almost every day that I took on and off as I got too hot/too cold.

Overall, I was surprised by how much I liked the city. I thought that it might be too small for my tastes after being used to living in New York, but it was a very refreshing change of pace.
